Our Future
Ellice Tanner commenced practice in Cambridge in January 2009 incorporating the practices formerly known as the Tristram Law Centre and Jecks & Co. The Cambridge practice is run by Paul Ellice, Partner, Andrew Smith, Partner and Laura Gray, Legal Executive.
Paul and Andrew have been assisting Cambridge residents for many years and also completed the Subdivision known as “Oaklands”. Laura Joined Ellice Tanner in August 2010, having practiced in Cambridge since 2004.
Paul, Andrew and Laura are supported by a team of 12 in the Hamilton office of Ellice Tanner. This includes our staff Solicitor Lyn Taylor who specialises in subdivisions and complicated land title issues. Lyn spends some time in the Cambridge Office and is available by appointment.
Ellice Tanner look forward to being involved in the Cambridge community. The firm have become proud sponsors of the Cambridge Primary School website.
Our History
We are a young firm with a proud history. Ellice Tanner was founded by Keith Tanner who first began legal practice in Hamilton in 1951. His father was one of the early partners in Tanner Fitzgerald Getty which was founded in the early 1900s. Keith was a partner of that firm for many years and then began practice on his own in 1990. He was joined in partnership by Paul Ellice eight years later, practicing together as Ellice Tanner. The firm’s head office is in Hamilton (Level 4, 11 Garden Place).

Paul was born and bred in Hamilton. He graduated from Canterbury University with LLB (Hons) in 1987. He is a Notary Public and has experience in a wide range of legal matters including: Property law, Succession Planning, Relationship Property and Trusts.
Outside the office, Paul enjoys trying to keep up with his wife and three young children. He also enjoys tending to the animals on his lifestyle block and escaping to the beach for a spot of fishing.
Andrew Smith

Andrew joined Ellice Tanner as a partner in 2001. He graduated from Victoria University of Wellington in 1986 and worked for a leading national law firm in Wellington and then law firms in Palmerston North, Tauranga and Hamilton. Andrew has also worked as a lawyer in London, England and in the Turks & Caicos Islands (a tax haven in the Caribbean).
Andrew specialises mainly in the property, commercial and company law and trusts areas.
Andrew is married with three children and is a trustee of a number of charitable trusts.
Laura Gray
Legal Executive
Laura has worked in law firms in the Bay of Plenty and Waikato ever since leaving school. She is a registered Legal Executive and graduated from Waikato University with a Bachelor of Communication in 2006.
Laura has two children to keep her busy and entertained. In her spare time she enjoys going to races, local polo events, ballet and catching up with friends.
